No more 4-letter word: A story of redemption

I would like to tell you a story. I’ll try and keep it brief. I started working at TVFCU 2 years ago. At the time it was a great job and working environment but that was about it. I had no real connection. It was like I was being adopted into a new family but for me it was simply a matter of convenience. I wasn’t sure how well I fit in.

My new family talked differently and expected me to clean up my language. During my first couple months I was corrected for the foul language I used. I was told that we don’t use the 4-letter word around here. What was the big deal? I have been using that word all my life. I learned it from my parents. In fact, they introduced me to that word when I was only 4 years old.

I know what you’re thinking. “What kind of animals were your parents?” They were just like anybody else’s parents, I guess. By that I mean they weren’t perfect but tried their best. Looking back, I’m not even sure they knew what that word really meant. I know I didn’t.

A few months into my new job here at TVFCU I was forced to listen to our President and CEO, Blake Strickland, share the history of the credit union. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t held at gun point or anything. I was really kind of tricked. I was asked to help with the DVD that he was going to show our newest employees about the history of the credit union and the differences from other financial intuitions. Through that simple act of deception I was held captive to his presentation. What I heard shocked me. Alright, shocked is a little dramatic. It intrigued me.

Knowing where we came from changes things. It creates a sense of ownership and pride. It causes you to value those who came before to ensure we have what we do today. It makes you want to be a part of the next generations history lesson. It makes me want to be known as someone who preserved and progressed the values of TVFCU and is worthy to be noted in the timeline of our story.

I’m a relatively new convert but I have come to love TVFCU and the Credit Union movement and I don’t give a BANK who knows it. Sorry, I’m still working on my language.

In order to help you “clean” up your language; always remember that BANK is a four letter bad word that ends with a “K”

I have been here so long coming into work each day at TVFCU is like waking up from a great night of sleep: refreshing, Rejuvenating and feeling good. I love the emphasis of what the Credit Union’s movement has been and is still all about: People helping People. These are only 3 little words but oh how poweful. I am proud to be on the team with the greatest and best credit union.
