2009 has been a tumultuous year but while other financial institutions found themselves scrambling to keep their head above water TVFCU stayed focused on what is truly important, enhancing member’s lifestyles. 2010 will be no different. We have a lot of plans and exciting things happening in the coming year, most of which I can’t talk about yet, but all of which will make your lives easier when it comes to managing your financial future. One of which is a completely redesigned and re-purposed website. Be looking for future posts where we will be asking for your feedback on this.

One of the great honors of 2009 was when we were awarded the Best of the Best Credit Union in Chattanooga for the second year in a row. This means a great deal to us and we can’t wait to for the opportunity to do it again next year. As a part of our profile page for the award the video below was made. You can also check it out on the Chattanooga Times Free Press website.

Thank you to everyone who voted for us and wish you a very Happy New Year!

Some members have mentioned that they are having trouble viewing various websites while using Microsoft’s newest browser, Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft’s claim is that some websites were designed for older browsers and therefore may not render correctly in their NEW IE8 browser. Of course there are many NEW browsers that render these pages exactly as the designer intended but that is the subject of another post.

Microsoft’s IE8 does have a solution for these OLDER web pages. It’s called “compatibility view”. Compatibility view basically make IE8 render a web page as if it were IE7. In a perfect world Microsoft would simply make a browser that worked in its standard mode but at least there is a solution.

For more information on “compatibility view” and including how to activate it if you have run into pages that don’t seem to look right, please check out the video below.

I would like to tell you a story. I’ll try and keep it brief. I started working at TVFCU 2 [...]

I would like to tell you a story. I’ll try and keep it brief. I started working at TVFCU 2 years ago. At the time it was a great job and working environment but that was about it. I had no real connection. It was like I was being adopted into a new family but for me it was simply a matter of convenience. I wasn’t sure how well I fit in.

My new family talked differently and expected me to clean up my language. During my first couple months I was corrected for the foul language I used. I was told that we don’t use the 4-letter word around here. What was the big deal? I have been using that word all my life. I learned it from my parents. In fact, they introduced me to that word when I was only 4 years old.

I know what you’re thinking. “What kind of animals were your parents?” They were just like anybody else’s parents, I guess. By that I mean they weren’t perfect but tried their best. Looking back, I’m not even sure they knew what that word really meant. I know I didn’t.

A few months into my new job here at TVFCU I was forced to listen to our President and CEO, Blake Strickland, share the history of the credit union. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t held at gun point or anything. I was really kind of tricked. I was asked to help with the DVD that he was going to show our newest employees about the history of the credit union and the differences from other financial intuitions. Through that simple act of deception I was held captive to his presentation. What I heard shocked me. Alright, shocked is a little dramatic. It intrigued me.

Knowing where we came from changes things. It creates a sense of ownership and pride. It causes you to value those who came before to ensure we have what we do today. It makes you want to be a part of the next generations history lesson. It makes me want to be known as someone who preserved and progressed the values of TVFCU and is worthy to be noted in the timeline of our story.

I’m a relatively new convert but I have come to love TVFCU and the Credit Union movement and I don’t give a BANK who knows it. Sorry, I’m still working on my language.

If you would like to know more about the history of TVFCU check out Our History page.
